May BAAA Meeting Program, Dr. Sarah G. Powers, Exhibition Curator for Frida: Beyond the Myth

Dr. Sarah G. Powers is the Exhibition Curator for Frida: Beyond the Myth and Curatorial Research Specialist in American Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Dr. Powers worked as Curator of Special Projects at the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College where she organized several exhibitions and programs on Mexican Modernism, including "Men of Fire: Jose Clemente Orozco and Jackson Pollock" in conjunction with the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center. She has also worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Smith College Art Museum, and the Williams College Museum of Art, and taught in the art history departments of Virginia Commonwealth University, Dartmouth College, University of Delaware, and Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. She holds a doctorate from the University of Delaware and a MA from Williams College. Previous projects at the WMFA includes Edward Hopper and the American Hotel in 2029-2020, for which she worked closely with curator of American Art Dr. Leo Mazow.
