BAAA January Program - Matt Lively

The Jan. 9th, 2026 speaker is Richmond artist Matt Lively. Matt graduated from VCU

and has been a self employed artist ever since. He teaches at VMFA and has a plein air

class called “Painting Outside with Matt Lively”. He has created many public art works;

among his latest are “Strides” a public sculpture commissioned by Bon Secours (installed

2024) and a lobby mural in the Midlothian Library (2024) depicting a history of coal

mining. Perhaps you’ve see his trademark around town - the Beecycle. Many of his pieces

feature vibrant colors, flora, houses, clouds and other whimsical elements.
